1ST APPEARANCE: G.I.JOE: ARISE, SERPENTOR, ARISE
SERPENTOR was the brainchild of GOLOBULUS, who wanted a replacement for COBRA COMMANDER. He had a bug emplant the skill and knowledge to create SERPENTOR into the mind of DR MINBENDER. At the time there was a growing unrest over COBRA COMMANDER'S leadership. MINDBENDER thought he had dreamed up the idea of creating a clone with the dna of history's greatest conquerors. SERPENTOR was "born" a military genius. However, he was seized with a lust for battle and attacked Washington DC. He had won, but GIJoe was able to take the city back. During the retreat, COBRA COMMANDER told SERPENTOR to keep him around as a scapegoat for the day when everyone realizes he is not the perfect leader.
SERPENTOR lead Cobra with an iron fist. Since he was "born" fully grown, he lacked paitence and would go wild whenever anything displeased him. Even DR MINDBENDER began to tire of his rages. COBRA COMMANDER tried to kill him several times but failed.
SERPENTOR finally met his true creator when PYTHONA hired him to steal the BET. His first attempt got him captured by DUKE.He was freed and GOLOBULUS explained his true origins. SERPENTOR went out into the world again and was nearly killed when the TERROR DROME was destroyed by SERGEANT SLAUGHTER, LT FALCON, and the RENEGADES. He tried to get revenge on LT FALCON during the second successful attempt on the BET. He was stopped by DUKE, but the move left the Joe seriously wounded.
SERPENTOR fought LT FALCON during the Joe invasion of COBRA-LA. FALCON was losing for most of the fight. He was finally aided by a transformed COBRA COMMANDER. FALCON snagged SERPENTOR'S cape on a turbine on his AIR CHARIOT. This sent the Cobra Emperor flying off wildly into the distance. Shortly after,COBRA-LA was destroyed in an explosion. No one has seen any trace of SERPENTOR. His current fate is unknown.
(Note: SERPENTOR returns in the D I C episodes only to be deposed and turned into an iguana by COBRA COMMANDER. His origin in the comics does not involve COBRA-LA. In the comics, he is apparently killed by an arrow shot at his head in issue 76 of the Marvel series. He survived and returned in issue 22 of the Devils Due series only die again apparently for good in issue 25.)
