ROY FOKKER started out as a pilot for the Hunter Flying Circus. There he became "big brother" to young RICK HUNTER. ROY left the circus to join the military and fight in the global civil war. He served under CAPTAIN GLOVAL. He went on to become an ace fighter pilot and leader of the famous Skull Squadron. He fell in love with S.D.F.-1 bridge officer, CLAUDIA GRANT.
On the launch day of the S.D.F.-1, ROY narrated a demostration of the VERITECH fighter that was interrupted by RICK. Later when the ZENTRADI attacked, ROY had to save RICK after the latter was accidentaly sent up in a VERITECH to do battle. When RICK went missing after the fold disaster, ROY asked CAPTAIN GLOVAL for permisson to mount a search party, only to be refused.
RICK was later found and joined the R.D.F. as a pilot in ROY'S squadron. When RICK was promoted, ROY gave him his rank pin and introduced him to his subordinantes. When Vermillon squadron and LISA HAYES disappeared, ROY had to tell MINMEI the bad news. He later, without knowing it, saved the squadron when they hid in BATTLEPOD that ROY then captured.
After the S.D.F.-1 returned to Earth, ROY fought in a battle where his fighter was shot up and he was unknowingly injured. He went to have dinner with CLAUDIA and collapsed. He died shortly after.
(Note: In the SENTINELS book series, RICK and LISA named their first child after ROY. In MACROSS: DYRL, ROY is among those captured by the ZENTRADI and is killed trying to escape.)
