OLYMPUS MONS was the tallest mountain in the ssolar system. It is so tall that only a Neo-sapien or a human in an E-FRAME can able to reach the top. For years it was the main base of PHAETON. From the mountain he not only ruled over the Neos, he also planned his takeover of the solar system. Despite the fact he had facilities on Earth in PHAETON CITY (Chicago), he spent most of his time inh his base in OLYMPUS MONS.
During the second year of the Second Neo-sapien War, PHAETON built a massive breeding center in the mountain. It was designed to create enough Neos to replace every man, women, and child on Earth. CAPTAIN MATTHEW MARCUS heard about it and thought it was the perfect bait to lure JT MARSH and his squad away so he could launch a coup. MARSH and his troops were told to take out the breeding facility and to maintain radio silence the entire time. In the first attempt, they failed and were awestruck at the size of the facility. The second attempt was thwated by MARSALLA, who appeared to turn traitor. The entire team was taken captive and JT MARSH was tortured. Just has the team was about to be executed, MARSALLA revealed he was faking his conversion and freed his friends. In the process, PHAETON was taken prisoner.
The group ended up in a running firefight with TYPHONUS'S troops. They tried to scale the outside of the mountain but where hampered by the thinning air. During a rest stop, PHAETON tried to break free and attack only to fall apprently to his doom. The group madev it to a hanger where they recovered their E-FRAMES. MARSH ordered everyone to set explosives in their E-FRAMES and toss them into the molten core of the mountain. He hoped the force of the explosion would destroy the place. PHAETON rewappeared and attacked MARSH. MARSH fought him off and was successful in escaping just moments before the explosives detonated. The force of the blast was equal to a nuclear explosion. It leveled the mountain, destroying everything inside. As a result, PHAETON was seriously injured. His injuries not only scarred his face, but also gave him AUTO MUTATION SYNDROME. MARSH and his friends meanwhile were rescued by KAZ TAKAGI and MAGGIE WESTON.
When MARSH got back to base, he found out the success of his mission was more fortunate then he realized. MARCUS'S takeover ended in an attack on Earth that cost the Exofleet most of its firepower. MARSH'S victory was the only thing that saved mankind from disaster. Unfortunately, it also gave PHAETON a reason to hate him and that hatred almost destroyed the Earth.
