ALLEGIANCE: Exofleet, and to his own ends
ASSIGNMENT: captain of the RESOLUTE 1

MATTHEW MARCUS was the overzealous Exofleet officer assigned to command the RESOLUTE. He would argue tatics with ADMIRAL WINFIELD and was an unholy terror with lower officers if he thought they were challenging his authority. He especially hated JT MARSH, because he was held in high regard by WINFIELD, who would get him out of trouble.
When WINFIELD was injured battling pirates, MARCUS took command of the fleet. He ordered half the fleet to Earth to attack the Neos after they conquered the Homeworlds. MARSH argued that such an action would be costly and that they should retreat instead. MARCUS lost his temper and charged him with mutiny. At MARSH'S court martial, he bullied the judges into a guilty verdict. When MARSH escaped to fight off the Neos, MARCUS tried to stop him but was stopped himself by a newly awaken WINFIELD. After MARSH was successful in saving the fleet, WINFIELD overturned MARCUS'S order for MARSH'S death and instead had him serve one year in prison.
MARCUS met a captain named FURLONG, who agreed with his view that WINFIELD was too cautious to command the fleet. They executed a successful coup and MARCUS appointed himself the new fleet commander. Before that, he sent most of MARSH'S squad, including MARSH himself, on a bogus mission to Mars. He then ordered the fleet to attack Earth.
The battle was a massacre and most of Exofleet was torn to shreds. MARCUS decided to pilot the mortally wounded RESOLUTE into the heart of the Neo fleet. KAZ TAKAGI came aboard to try to get the captain to leave. MARCUS shooed him away and told him to tell WINFIELD "MATTHEW MARCUS knew how to die". Moments later, the RESOLUTE erupted in a ball of fire, taking MARCUS with it.
