MACROSS ISLND was orginally an uncharted island in the middle of the Pacific. In 1999, the ship that would become SDF-1 crashed there. In the years since, military personnel and scientists flocked to the island to study the ship. A civilian population also moved in and set up a city surrounding the ship. Both the city and the island were named Macross. In 2009, the SDF-1 was to be launched in a grand ceremony. On the same day, the Zentradi attacked. When CAPTAIN GLOVAL realized he cxould not get the ship into orbit, he ordered the ship to go into a fold. The manuver accidentally took the island with it. Both island and ship ended up in orbit of Pluto. The island turned into a giant ball of ice. Most of the citizens were rescued but the island was unsalvageable. The remains are probably stil floating near Pluto.
