LYNN MINMEI grew up alongside her uncle and aunt on MACROSS ISLAND. She was present for the inaugration of the SDF-1. During the chaos that followed, she met RICK HUNTER when the latter crashed a VERITECH into her uncle's restruant. She ended up in the cockpit with him and visited the SDF-1. She tried to leave the ship with him, but ended up being stranded with him in a deserted part of the ship thanks to the fold disaster. They were stuck there for two weeks before they were rescued. During that time MINMEI and RICK grew close, but not close enough for her to call him her boyfriend.
MINMEI stayed friends with RICK and supported his efforts in the RDF. She and him became sort of an item. She entered and won the Miss Macross Paegent and began a career as a singer and actress. Her work kept her away from RICK and their relationship began to strain. Things grew worse when she returned to Earth. She went back to China where she was reunited with her parents and her cousin LYNN KYLE. She began spending time with him which drove RICK further away.
When it was found that her voice was a source of influence over the Zentradi, she sang a concert while the SDF-1 and it's allies attacked DOLZA. It was her singing that convinced many Zentradi to renounce their warlike ways and turn to peace.
In the two years that followed, MINMEI would do goodwill tours of the surviving cities with KYLE as her manager. KYLE started drinking and MINMEI had to endure his sour moods. She began to tire and several times met RICK in secret in order to have someone to confide in. Finally, she left KYLE near Christmas and stayed at RICK'S place. She grew happier and wanted to start a new life with RICK at her side. He wanted to continue fighting but MINMEI wanted him to stop. He finally left her to go fight off the kamikaze attack by KHYRON. After the battle MINMEI decided she had been unfair to RICK and they broke off their relationship. She still remained friends with him though, and she even played at his wedding to LISA HAYES.
MINMEI went with RICK, LISA and the rest of the crew of the SDF-3 into parts unknown. Her final fate remains a mystery.
(Note: MINMEI was already a singer at the begining of MACROSS: DYRL. There is a rumor that she gets killed in the end of the ROBOTECH : SENTINELS book series.)
