JAZZ was one of the first Transformers to arrive on Earth. He can transform into a race car. He is part of the inner circle of Autobots that consult with OPTIMUS PRIME. Many times he'll choose which Autobots go on what mission.
By the second year of the war on Earth, JAZZ gained the ability to fire sonic blasts from speakers that can appear in his car mode. This made him one of only two Autobots to employ sound as a weapon (the other one being BLASTER.). This ability was damaged when JAZZ, like most of the Earthbound Transformers suffered from a lack of a special material found only on Cybertron.
By 2005, JAZZ had become one of the Autobots stationed on MOONBASE ONE. Alongside CLIFFJUMPER and OPTIMUS PRIME, He oversaw the launching of the ill-fated shuttle mission commanded by IRONHIDE. Later JAZZ and CLIFFJUMPER had to abandon the MOONBASE when it was attacked by UNICRON. They tried to flee in a shuttle but were swallowed by the killer planet. A short time later, JAZZ along with CLIFFJUMPER, SPIKE, and BUMBLEBEE, were about to be dropped into a vat of acid. They were saved by DANIEL, who accompanied a team of Autobots into UNICRON in order to destroy him and save their friends.
JAZZ is still alive by 2006, were he participated in an obstacle course during an intergalatic olympic games. He was there to replace BLURR, who was on special assignment.
(Note: Scatman Crothers passed away shortly after TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE was made. In the comics, JAZZ serves as a Pretender for a short time.)
