The HATE PLAGUE first appeared over a million years ago. It spread out and infected all life on Cybertron. It infected living things on contact. Those infected turned a glowing red and their feelings of hatred were amplified to incredible levels. An unidentified wiseman was able to contain the plague and send into space.

The HATE PLAGUE resurfaced in 2005 when a ship piloted by OPTIMUS PRIME traveled close to its resting place. Two scientists, JESSICA MORGAN and GREGORY SWAFORD, rescued PRIME from a supernova but also found the spores. Upon getting back to Earth, JESSICA was wounded in a Decepticon attack. Her father, MARK MORGAN, blamed all Transformers and decided to infect them with the plague. JESSICA tried to warn the Autobots and they imediately set aout to try to retrieve PRIME'S body and stop the two scientists. Unfortunately, DR MORGAN and SWAFORD tricked the Autobots and ULTRA MAGNUS, the AERILBOTS, and the THROTTLEBOTS were all infected.

The Autobots soon spread the disease to their friends and also to several Decepticons. Before being infected himself, RODIMUS PRIME sent SKY LYNX to find a QUINTESSON to get him to revive OPTIMUS PRIME. SKY LYNX was successfull and the QUINTESSON brought OPTIMUS back to life. OPTIMUS took JESSICA and the remaining uninfected Autobots to CHARR. There they teamed with GALVATRON to find some heat resistant alloy that the Decepticons had stolen from MARK MORGAN. During the quest the rest of the Autobots were infected. OPTIMUS found what he needed but lost GALVATRON and JESSICA to the plague.

OPTIMUS PRIME used the alloy to coat himself so he could resist the plague's effects. He battled RODIMUS and took back the MATRIX from him. Going into the MATRIX, OPTIMUS found out that the only way to fight the plague was with wisdom. However, no one man has enough to combat the plague.PRIME decided to use the wisdom in the MATRIX to stop the plague. His plan worked and the HATE PLAGUE was destroyed. However, the MATRIX lost all the wisdom it contained.
