GUNG-HO was one of the first G.I.Joes. He has the reputation of being the rowdiest member. He also considers himself a wonderful Cajun cook and would sometimes prepare gumbo for teammates (Much to their dismay.).
During the MASS DEVICE incident, GUNG-HO volunteered his gun to test the Joe MASS DEVICE. Sadly, the gun was twisted out of shape. He later led the first wave of Joes to invade Cobra's flying aircraft carrier while taking part in "Operation: Big Lift".
He later helped capture COBRA COMMANDER when the latter stole the ion correlator from the Joes. When COBRA COMMANDER escaped thanks to the DREADNOKS, GUNG-HO chased after him unsuccessfully. He was part of the mission to defend Washington DC. He later went into the PALACE OF DOOM to recover part of the WEATHER DOMINATOR and was almost killed in an earthquake. Afterward, he was part of the team at the ROOF OF THE WORLD, where he annoyed DESTRO by skidding ice into his face.
GUNG-HO tried to fix JOE HEADQUARTERS after it was drained of power by the PYRAMID OF DARKNESS. He was one of the Joes who had his family targeted by Cobra. Fortunately, his large and boisterous family overwhelmed the BARONESS and she retreated with no prisoners. He was later part of a group that defended the anti-terroism conference. When ZARTAN was captured after planting a bomb, GUNG-HO put him in a cell and set his watch ahead, just to freak him out. Afterward GUNG-HO had to cook gumbo for everyone because he lost a bet with LADY JAYE.
When LEATHERNECK joined the Joes, GUNG-HO became friends with him and the two would be paired up on missions. He was part of LEATHERNECK'S group that went to Vietnam to investigate a nerve gas factory.
GUNG-HO was part of the team that went to the Himalayas to test the BET. He later helped guard SERPENTOR. Unfortunately, the DREADNOKS attacked. During the battle, GUNG-HO had to splice wires to activate an alarm. Right after he did that, NEMESIS ENFORCER severly wounded him by dropping ALPINE on top of him. He was then hospitalized. He has by now probably recovered.
