EMERALDAS is the sister of MAETEL. Unlike her sister, EMERALDAS went on to be a space pirate. She is as feared as CAPTAIN HARLOCK himself. The two have even shared adventures on occasion. One of their most famous adventures was when they were involved in a conflict with the cosmic being, WOTAN. She is a lover of the engineer TOCHIRO. She agonized over not being able to find him when he disappeared.
EMERALDAS had obtained information on the whereabouts of COUNT MECHA'S TIME CASTLE. When she passed by the GALAXY EXPRESS 999, TETSURO wanted to get her attention so he fired a shot from his gun at her ship, QUEEN EMERALDAS. She boardeed 999 and began looking for the shooter. When she met TETSURO, she did'nt attack him because she recognized his gun as a COSMO DRAGOON, a special gun made by TOCHIRO. MAETEL told EMERALDAS of the young boy's request and she told him that the TIME CASTLE would appear on the planet HEAVY MELDAR.
When TOCHIRO died, she felt something. EMERALDAS followed her feelings to HEAVY MELDAR, where HARLOCK told her he was already dead. Later TOCHIRO'S spirit called her and told her he now resides in the ARCADIA, HARLOCK'S ship, which he helped build. She then helped HARLOCK attack PLANET MAETEL.
Two years later EMERALDAS got involved in the final battle against the leftovers of the Machine Empire. She took part in the attack on FINAL STATION ANDROMEDA and survived the attack of SIREN THE WITCH.
EMERALDAS still roams the stars today. It is only a matter of time until she and her sister MAETEL cross paths again.
(Note: EMERALDAS suffers from an unknown disease in the 999 mangas. She is an important part of the new HARLOCK manga and stars in her own new OAV and is featured in the oav MAETEL LEGEND. Veronica Taylor is more commonly known as the voice of main hero Ash Ketchum on the hit show POKEMON and its movie spinoffs.� The information that MAETEL and EMERALDAS are sisters comes from an interview of Leiji Matsumoto and is considered canon. This revelation is cemented in the current 999 manga.)
