DOLZA is the leader of all Zentradi. It was he that sent BREETAI to go retrieve the SDF-1. DOLZA spent his time in his grand vessel with the rest of the Zentradi fleet light years away.
DOLZA had first contact with humans when BREETAI captured LISA HAYES and two members of Vermillion Squadron. He tried to demoralized the humans by showing them scenes of the fleet demolishing an entire planet. He grew ill at seeing LISA and RICK HUNTER kiss. This convinced him that humans had PROTOCULTURE. He explained the origins of PROTOCULTURE to BREETAI, EXEDORE, and three spies. He then approved of the idea of sending three spies to infiltrate SDF-1.
Following the escape of the human prisoners, DOLZA turned over command of the mission to AZONIA. When AZONIA failed, he returned command to BREETAI. Awhile later,AZONIA contacted him with a report about mass defections in the fleet. This made DOLZA come to Earth and attack it with the main fleet. He was repulsed by SDF-1 and BREETAI'S fleet. The SDF-1 busted its way into DOLZA'S massive ship and overloaded its shields. The resulting explosion destroyed DOLZA'S ship and took the Zebtradi leader with it.
A downside to this victory was that the ROBOTECH MASTERS detected the explosion and decided to undertake a twenty-year journey to investigate. When they arrived, they started the Second Robotech War.
(Note: In the ROBOTECH book series, their is a prolouge that shows DOLZA present when the SDF-1 disappeared from Zentradi space. In MARCOSS: DYRL, DOLZA looks very different from the way he does in the regular cartoon.)
