1ST APPEARANCE: (GRIMLOCK, SLUDGE, SLAG) TRANSFORMERS: SOS DINOBOTS (SWOOP, SNARL) WAR OF THE DINOBOTS
The DINOBOTS were created by WHEELJACK and RATCHET to give the Autobots some heavy firepower. The first three, GRIMLOCK, SLUGDE and SLAG, were very powerful but lacked inteligence. When the three almost destroyed the ARK, OPTIMUS PRIME ordered them deactivated. WHEELJACK complied but also set about creating modules that increased their intelligence by a small degree. This ended up being a good thing because the DINOBOTS were able to save the Autobots after they were captured by the Decepticons.
MEGATRON tricked the DINOBOTS into siding with him against PRIME. At the same time, two new DINOBOTS, SNARL and SWOOP were created. These new DINOBOTS fought their fellow DINOBOTS in order to save PRIME. The older DINOBOTS eventually realized that MEGATRON was tricking them and went back to PRIME'S side. The larger group then all became friends.
The DINOBOTS lent a hand in trying to stop a flood from destroying a town during the incident where CYBERTRON was in Earth's orbit. Later, they battled the CONSTRUCTICONS when they tried to attack the ARK. They were stalemated by DEVASTATOR, but when PRIME fired a blast that broke the GESTALT back into his seperate components, the DINOBOTS pushed them back into a lava flow.
For a time, the DINOBOTS were forced to train on a time lost island called Dinobot Island, following their acidental damaging of TELETRAN-1. They were ambushed by MEGATRON and sucked into a tar pit. SNARL used his flame weapons to free everyone and they caused a stampede that helped drive back the Decepticons. For their bravery, PRIME allowed them to return back to the ARK.
The DINOBOTS left the Autobots after nearly dying in a battle. They went to CYBERTRON and all except SWOOP were captured by SHOCKWAVE. SWOOP found SPIKE and CARLY and together they freed the DINOBOTS who were being forced to mine for Cybertronium. After that, they returned to the Autobots.
Most of the DINOBOTS were part PRIME'S squad that went to help the Autobots push back an attack on AUTOBOT CITY in 2005. They fought a rematch with Devastator that knocked both sides out of the action. They then were part of KUP and HOT ROD'S shuttle crew. They crashed on QUINTESSA and were seperated from KUP and HOT ROD. An Autobot named WHEELIE helped them reunite with their friends and save them from the QUINTESSONS. After, the DINOBOTS made an attack on UNICRON. The attack did some damage, but the DINOBOTS had to pull back.
Almost a year later, GRIMLOCK played a part in rescuing KUP, ULTRA MAGNUS, and SPIKE from the QUINTESSONS. A few months later, the DINOBOTS were part of an army of "primative" Transformers that were sent destroy Tormatron. All the DINOBOTS except GRIMLOCK were defeated. GRIMLOCK confronted Tormatron's creator PRIMACRON and helped him destroy the creature after it rebeled. He then brought the whole lab down on PRIMACRON'S head.
When GRIMLOCK recieved increased intelligence for awhile, his attitude turned off the other DINOBOTS and they abandoned him. GRIMLOCK later gave up his intelligence to Computron and went back to his friends. He was welcome back and they all celebrated with a muddy oil bath.
(Note: The DINOBOTS have a different origin in the comic series. They have a major role in the GENERATION 2 mini-series. Sadly, SLAG dies at the end of the series trying to save one of the AERILBOTS from a malevolent force known as the Swarm.)
