COBRA-LA was an ancient civilization that covered the globe. They had mastered a technology based on organic life. Unfortunately, the Ice Age destroyed almost the entire empire and allowed the ancestors of man to overrun the planet. GOLOBULOUS, the leader of COBRA-LA, led his people to a hidden location in the Himilayas to preserve the race and plan for ways to reclaim the Earth.
In recent times, GOLOBULUS sent the man known as COBRA COMMANDER into the world to destroy humanity. After several failures, he was replaced by the genetic reation known as SERPENTOR. Throughout all this, the people of COBRA-LA breed giant fungus plants that would launch spores into space that would burst and rain down on the planet and mutate all life.
To help this plan along, PYTHONA was dispatched to enlist SERPENTOR to steal the BET. SERPENTOR failed and was captured. COBRA COMMANDER led his troops to COBRA-LA for safety. Several Joes followed and they were captured by NEMESIS ENFORCER. COBRA COMMANDER was captured and charged with failing his race. He was subjected to spores and mutated into a snake. SERPENTOR meanwhile, was freed and he led a sucessful second attempt on the BET.
A large group of Joes attacked COBRA-LA but were all captured by the CARNO TREE. Fortunately, the Joe Roadblock had escaped earlier with COBRA COMMANDER. The pair led the other Joes to COBRA-LA and the Joe BIG LOB freed everyone who was captured. In the battle that followed, the Joes SERGEANT SLAUGHTER, JINX, and LT FALCON battled COBRA-LA's hierarchy. FALCON defeated GOLOBULUS himself in battle but it looked like COBRA-LA had won anyway when the pods burst. FALCON risked his life to overload the BET. The plan worked and the spores were all destroyed. In the process COBRA-LA was obliterated. All the Joes survived. Some of the Cobra organization have been confirmed alive. As for anyone from COBRA-LA, it appears to be that all of them are dead and every trace of the once proud civilization was wiped out.
(Note: COBRA-LA does not appear in the comics. In fact, the writers have sworn never to use it.)
