CAPTAIN GLOVAL was born in Russia. He has spent most of his life in the military. He participated in the Global Civil War, commanding the carrier PROMETHEUS and later the carrier KHONSA. He later was named captain of the SDF-1.
GLOVAL was always respected by the crew. They even let him get away with smoking a pipe on the bridge even though it was not allowed. He has also won them over with his fine cooking skills. GLOVAL would also confer with DR. LANG on ways to improve the ship's defenses.
When the Zentradi attacked on Inaugration day, GLOVAL figured out that the SDF-1 was programmed to fire if the Zentradi appeared. He was the one who ordered the controversial move to fold in the atmosphere. He has always taken full responsibility for this action.
GLOVAL made several other controversial decisions in his career. The first was when he allowed the ZENTRADI defectors to stay on board. He also ordered for the ship to break through a blockade of ZENTRADI craft to get back to Earth. After he and LISA HAYES were refused by the UNSPACEY and RDF to offload the survivors of MACROSS CITY, he went on tour of the continent appealing to anyone who would listen. He was finally allowed in by the city of ONTARIO. Unfortunately, an attack overloaded the ship's shields and resulted in several miles being destroyed. As a result, GLOVAL'S request was denied.
GLOVAL agreed to team with BREETAI against DOLZA. He led his ship through out the battle and through a shakey planetfall. In the two years since, he had been promoted to admiral and continued to command the grounded SDF. He ordered LISA to command the SDF-2.
During the final battle with KHYRON, GLOVAL realized the mad ZENTRADI commander was about to kamikaze the ship. He pushed LISA into an escape pod and sacrificed his life.
(Note: GLOVAL survives in the orginal Japanese version. The Japanese version also says his name is Bruno J Gloval. All American stories list it as Henry T. Gloval.)
