| SNAKE ROBOTS CREATED BY: Cobra techs 1ST APPEARENCE: G.I.JOE: REAL AMERICAN HERO (NO LONGER PRODUCED) SNAKE ROBOTS were Cobra's first attempt at creating an artificial intelligence drone for use in combat. SNAKES had large stocky bodies with a blue visor at the top of its "head". Their hands were designed to carry a variety of detachable weapons such as rockets, claws, laser cannons, and magnets attached to large steel blocks. They were also equipped with a high powered laser beam located in the chest. The beam could melt through most materials. They were even more primitive than BATS and could only be programmed with simple commands and instructions. They were poor analyzers of battlefield tactics and would pause in order to react to any change in the enemy's position. In addition to that, they had extremely poor "friend or foe" systems and could be easily tricked into attacking even other SNAKES. The last major weakness was that the robots' internal mechanism could not take the stress of being spun at high speeds and would shut down. (The term "high speeds" is a bit of exagerration since the fastest a unit was seen being spun was however fast TRIPWIRE and FLASH could spin it.) SNAKE ROBOTS were first seen guarded the entrance to the radioactive crystal mine located in the SEA OF ICE. Despite catching the Joes by surprise, SCARLETT and her team were able to defeat each one with only the loss of one rifle. SNAKE ROBOTS were used by MAJOR BLUDD a year later to try to retrieve the HYDRO MASTER from the PALACE OF DOOM. The robots didn't even make it to the front steps before being destroyed by PAC RATS. SNAKE ROBOTS were again used by the BARONESS to defend her private chateau. One was easily brought down by a flying kick delivered by XAMOT. SNAKES were then used in the Christmas Eve assault on JOE HEADQUARTERS. All were destroyed when the Joes escaped their imprisonment. Shortly after, BATS were developed and Cobra discontinued the use of SNAKE ROBOTS. It is unknown if any SNAKES still exist and are in working order. (Note: The toy and comic book SNAKES were really robot suits. Inside them was equipment designed to brainwash the user. A blue SNAKE suit was released in 1985.)
