As a boy he met CHAPEL THE EVERGREEN who encouraged him to fight back. WOLFWOOD ended up shooting his guardian in a fight. CHAPEL took WOLFWOOD in and trained him. WOLFWOOD followed his master and patterned his life like that of a priest. He opened an orphange and began to take care of the children that were brought to him. CHAPEL appeared one day and ordered WOLFWOOD to go after VASH THE STAMPEDE. He threatened to harm the children if WOLFWOOD did not agree. WOLFWOOD agreed and set off. He found VASH when he stranded out in the desert and the bus VASH was taking found him. The two struck a friendship and teamed up to rescue a child from some machines. WOLFWOOD also struck a friendship with MILLY THOMPSON. WOLFWOOD and VASH teamed up again to take part in a shooting contest in order to win money to help a widow. They ended up dueling each other but the battle had to be out off when they fought off gunmen that held the widow hostage unless WOLFWOOD killed VASH. After helping MILLY smuggle two kids away from a caravan that dealt in slavery, WOLFWOOD seperated from the group. He was drawn to the city of AUGUSTA and arrived just after VASH fired the ANGEL ARM. He found RAI-DEI THE BLADE and shot him to put him out of his misery. He then found VASH'S gun and took it to FRANK MARLON for repairs. He then tracked VASH and aided him in rescuing LINA. the two then left to track down rumors of disappearences in several towns. They detoured to the FLYING SHIP where they fought against three GUNG-HO GUNS. WOLFWOOD severely damaged GRAY THE NINELIVES but could'nt stop him from destroying the ship's generator. After the ship crashed, he found JESSICA tied up but unable to prevent the FALSE JESSICA from attacking VASH. When the fake killed BRAD, WOLFWOOD tracked down its master, LEONOF THE PUPPETMASTER and killed him with a bazooka blast. WOLFWOOD and VASH joined MERYL and MILLY in guarding some orphans. One of them turned out to be ZAIZIE THE BEAST. WOLFWOOD shot and killed him in order to stop him. VASH grew upset and told WOLWOOD there was another way. Although he told VASH eh had no other choice, the incident upset him. A short time later in the town of TORIN, CHAPEL told WOLFWOOD to kill VASH. WOLFWOOD angonized over his what to do. MILLY appeared and spent the night comforting him. The next day, WOLFWOOD confronted VASH but refused to kill him. He fought CHAPEL but managed to win without killing him. As he walked away, LEGATO took control of CHAPEL and had him fatally shoot WOLFWOOD. As he was bleeding to death, WOLFWOOD told VASH where to find KNIVES. He then went to a church where he prayed for forgiveness. Just as he made peace with himself he began to ask God for a chance to live. Unfortunately he was too badly injured and he died quietly kneeling before the cross. MILLY was broken up over WOLFWOOD'S death. VASH took WOLFWOOD'S CROSS with him to confront KNIVES. Just as KNIVES was about to fire a double ANGEL ARM, WOLFWOOD'S spirit guided VASH to the cross and VASH was able to use it to win the day.
