KING ARTHUR is the legendary king who united all of Britain and ruled from Camelot with the help of the wizard Merlin and the Knights of the Round Table. ARTHUR wielded the sword EXCALIBUR, a weapon that belonged only to the true king of England. In time, Camelot fell and ARTHUR was wounded in battle. Merlin arranged for the king to be brought to AVALON, where his wounds were healed and he was made to sleep until the time he was needed again.

In the 1990s, ELIZA MAZA woke ARTHUR so that he might be of aid in the battle against the ARCHMAGE. He fought and bested MACBETH in single combat. After the ARCHMAGE was destroyed, ARTHUR set out on his own to explore and find EXCALIBUR, Merlin, and his knights.

ARTHUR journeyed to England and went to Westminster Abbey. There he found the Stone of Destiny. He was then met by GRIFF who at first questioned his identity. The Stone awoke and told ARTHUR he would have to seek out EXCALIBUR and prove he was still worthy. The Stone sent the two to New York. There ARTHUR and GRIFF met up with the rest of GOLIATH'S clan. ARTHUR found the Lady of the Lake who told him where to find EXCALIBUR. ARTHUR then fought MACBETH for the sword and at first appeared to lose. However, the stone dragon that held the sword came to life and the two enemies had to band together to fight it. During the fight, ARTHUR realized the sword MACBETH had was not the real EXCALIBUR. He then realized the real one was inside the dragon's ruby center. He shattered the ruby, destroying the dragon. and regained the sword. In the aftermath, MACBETH made peace with ARTHUR and recognized him as the true king. ARTHUR offered to make him a knight, but MACBETH refused to serve any man. However, he did promise to aid ARTHUR should he need it.

ARTHUR knighted GRIFF and after spending a day in New York, he and GRIFF set out again to find Merlin and the Knights.

(
Note: ARTHUR was to be the star of his own spinoff which would have also featured Merlin and at least two other characters of the Arthurian legends.)
