| DESTRO VOICE ACTOR: Arthur Burghardt ALLEGIANCE: Cobra, but only if it suits him SPECIALTY: weapons supplier 1ST APPEARANCE: G.I.JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO One of DESTRO'S ancestors was forced to wear a mask after being falsely accused of witchcraft. This turned his family against the forces of law and order. Also, every member must wear a mask. DESTRO chose to wear a silver mask. He went on to become a weapons supplier for the Cobra organization. He soon met and became involved with BARONESS. His first known plot alongside Cobra was to blackmail the world using the MASS DEVICE. DESTRO grew annoyed at the wat COBRA COMMANDER handled the matter and at one point took over the operation to procure the final element needed to power the device. During this, he captured the Joe operative SCARLETT. When he returned, DESTRO found out about COBRA COMMANDER'S rash and failed attack on New York. He immediately took control of the entire operation and demanded the nations of the world surrender. When they refused, he allowed COBRA COMMANDER to manipulate him into attacking New York. This second attack was stopped by the Joes. DESTRO then threatened to kill several captive leaders from various countries. The Joes stormed Cobra Temple before he could shoot a single one. DESTRO then retreated. DESTRO was also the genius behind the WEATHER DOMINATOR. During that conflict he was going to leave COBRA COMMANDER in Joe custody but ZARTAN freed him. DESTRO wanted to punish the mercenary when he betrayed Cobra, but COBRA COMMANDER forgave ZARTAN instead. DESTRO was once again forced to retreat when the Joes invaded. A year later, DESTRO was part of Cobra's plot to conquer the world using the PYRAMID OF DARKNESS. DESTRO returned to his ancestral home to find LADY JAYE. She told him that its possible they're related through a distant cousin. DESTRO did'nt believe it and soon after the castle was destroyed in a battle between the Joes and Cobra. He later found out from BARONESS that LADY JAYE was telling the truth. When COBRA COMMANDER replaced the generals overseeing GIJoe with clones, he also tried to clone DESTRO. This angered the weapons dealer who then helped the Joes defeat Cobra as payback. When DR MINDBENDER decided to try to create SERPENTOR, DESTRO sided with him. However, he sooned joined COBRA COMMANDER in attempting to depose or kill him. In the first attempt, COBRA COMMANDER tried to control a creature that lurked under the ruins of DESTRO'S castle. DESTRO did'nt want to go along with the plan and ended up telling the Joes the chant that was needed to put the creature under their control. DESTRO was part of the attempt to create the Coil Cult. DESTRO was part of Cobra's assault on the Statue of Liberty. DESTRO sided against COBRA COMMANDER when the latter tried to challenge SERPENTOR. DESTRO sided with COBRA-LA in the attempt to mutate the world's population. When the Joes stormed the civilization, DESTRO was defeated by TAURUS of the RENEGADES. (Note: DESTRO'S relation to Lady Jaye is not used in the comics or toys. In 1988, he gained a new gold mask and became leader of his own group, the Iron Grenadiers.
