| CAPTAIN MARIA CHAVEZ VOICE ACTOR: Rachel Ticotin RACE: Human OCCUPATION: Captain of the 23rd Police Precinct of New York 1ST APPEARENCE: GARGOYLES: DEADLY FORCE CAPTAIN MARIA CHAVEZ is the head of the 23rd precinct where ELIZA MAZA works. She is known for being tough policewoman even to those under her command. CHAVEZ and ELIZA argued over how to proceed investigating TONY DRACON. When ELIZA was shot in her own home, CHAVEZ suspected that DRACON shot her and told ELIZA'S family of her suspicions. What she didn't know was that the Gargoyle BROADWAY had shot ELIZA by accident with her own gun. ELIZA recovered and told CHAVEZ she set it off by accident. CHAVEZ ordered ELIZA to partner with MATT BLUESTONE. CAPTAIN CHAVEZ teamed with ELIZA to bust DRACON again. She and ELIZA made it seem like ELIZA had gone rogue and set her up to infiltrate his operation. Meanwhile, CHAVEZ and OFFICER MORGAN impersonated store owners that worked in a block that DRACON was trying to muscle in on. The two were almost killed by PAL JOEY when he knocked them out with sleeping gas and then set a bomb. BROADWAY came to the rescue and left PAL JOEY tied up with a steel beam. CHAVEZ and MORGAN arrested JOEY but had no idea of BROADWAY'S involvement. CAPTAIN CHAVEZ was unaware that ELIZA had left for AVALON. Fortunately, ELIZA had friends and family relate to her boss that she was on vacation. When ELIZA returned, CHAVEZ had her switch to a day shift in order to train JASON CONOVER. CONOVER ended up being HUNTER JASON CANMORE. In an assault on the Gargoyles clock tower home, JASON and his siblings destroyed the tower and wrecked the 23rd police headquarters which had been located underneath. CAPTAIN CHAVEZ had been injured in the blast and had to stay in the hospital for a few days. ELIZA and MATT told her of JASON'S real past. CHAVEZ had them go after him. When the explosion exposed the Gargoyles to the world, CHAVEZ created a Gargoyle Task Force and put MATT in charge. Her stance on the gargoyle issue has never been clear. She did take ANGELA and BRONX into custody when they were found at the site of an explosion and followed MARGOT YALE'S orders when she wanted to press charges. (Note: Rachel Ticotin can be seen alongside Arnold Schwarzenagger in the sci-fi film Total Recall. She can also be seen playing the mother of Johnny Depp in Don Juan De Marco.)
