The ARCHMAGE was a sorcerer in the court of PRINCE MALCOM. He taught magic to the MAGUS and had the Gargoyle who one day be DEMONA as another pupil. Secretly he wanted power for himself. His first attempt was steal the PHOENIX GATE. However, it was lost in the chaos that came when strange visators arrived and saved the Norman Ambassador from bandits. After another plot he was banished.

He returned and poisoned MALCOM. GOLIATH, DEMONA, and the Gargoyle who later became HUDSON followed him. After a hard battle, the Gargoyles got a hold of the GRIMORIUM in order to find the antidote. The ARCHMAGE flung himself at them but mistepped and apparently fell to his death. While the Gargoyles did recover the book and save MALCOM, HUDSON was blinded forever in one eye.

Meanwhile, the ARCHMAGE was saved from death by his future self. The future ARCHMAGE took his past self on time trip in which they allied with the WEIRD SISTERS and kept watch over the lives of MACBETH and DEMONA. Soon, the WEIRD SISTERS brought the GRIMORIUM. EYE OF ODIN, and PHOENIX GATE to the two ARCHMAGES. The past ARCHMAGE placed the EYE on his brow and the GATE in a clasp around his neck. He then swallowed the GRIMORIUM to absorb its power. He then went back in time to find himself and begin the cycle that led to his gaining great power.

After finishing this, he went to AVALON and along with the WEIRD SISTERS and the hypnotized DEMONA and MACBETH, attacked the humans and Gargoyles living in OBERON'S Castle. TOM left AVALON and returned with GOLIATH, ELIZA MAZA, and BRONX. GOLIATH, ANGELA, and GABRIEL confronted the ARCHMAGE. During the battle, GOLIATH ripped the EYE OF ODIN off the ARCHMAGE'S head. Without the EYE, he could'nt control the magical energies within him and was consumed.

(Note: David Warner can be seen playing Federation Ambasador Talbot St John in Star Trek 5 and Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek 6. He can also be seen in the Next Generation episode "Chain of Command" as Cardassian interegator Gul Madred. He has roles in Titanic, Scream 2, Wild Palms, and plays Evil itself in Time Bandits. His voice can be heard as Ra's Al Ghul in the Batman Animated Series.)
