I'm soooo excited for this gathering. aanii, Lynzii n'dizhnikaz, m'chigeeng miinwaa m'nidoo m'nising n'doo jibaa. nangoonhs kwe ndoodem. anishnaabe kwe miinwaa, a little bit of irish, scottish and english! so I'm all ISH!! haha! I'm 24 years old and currently moving home to M'chigeeng First Nation to live and create environmental awarness in my community, with my family and friends. becasue I feel the pain of mother earth and know we can help her to heal, all together. I have started a that as a personal project for me, its called 'Love shkakmig-kwe project', and I've created a facebook group online, and like to share and listen to what others think about mother earth and such. I too, dream of having a gathering in my community this summer, it just came to me, and it wil be a 'Gathering of Teachings for the Healing of Mother Earth'. I have to go grocery shopping now! but G'chi-miigwetch for this. miigwetch, miigwetch, miigwetch, miigwetch.

Thank you for the "The Earth Medicine Gathering".

The premise of this Gathering was the Earth is changing (no doubt). We were asked to think positively about the future.

Humanity has gone through transformations before. When the Gutenberg's printing press allowed people to communicate en masse in writing this brought about the Age of Reason which in turned catalysed the formation of the Republics of France and the United States.

We have the internet and the ability to communicate almost instantly with each other. Are we entering the Age of Truth? Could the internet be the catalyst for the formation of a more Peaceful world?
Imagine a society not dependent on oil for transportation. What will the air be like? What will the communities be like? We can imagine the best possible things to happen.

Humans have only lived in a car-dependent, materialistic and suburban culture for 50 years which has lead to polluted air and water, global warming, decreased physical activity and social isolation.

The next society structure we build will certainly be better and should include more walking and more time with neighbours and family, better air quality and cleaner water. We have the technology and the ideological framework to create a better world.

My ideas comes from a book written by Jane Jacobs in 2004: Dark Age Ahead. Jane Jacobs discussed that we need to protect the five pillars of a healthy society:

1) family (but also community) - create communities that support families and bring people together
2) education - recognize all aspects of a person's education and not just credentials
3) science - the critical thinking skills and knowledge that science brings to the world are key to solving many of the problems we face
4) representational government and taxes - governments need to be more responsive to the local needs of people and not govern from afar
5) corporate and professional accountability - all professions and corporations need to be transparent and accountable for their decisions


It sounds kind of cookey but if we believe this to be so than it will eventually be. Why? Because we will seek ways to create this world if this is what we believe. I hope that makes sense. Here are some more references that I have read that have lead me to this thinking pattern:

I have put it out to the world. I am spiritual and scientific person. Those of you who know me well, already knew this fact.

Think positively. Global Warming is happening but we have time to slow it down and create a better world :)

I felt the world shift yesterday on June 22, 2008.

At the Earth Medicine Gathering we learned a song and dance called "Every step I take".

I shared that song and dance with some "big time leader people" on June 22, 2008 at a conference and it worked beyond whatever I could have thought it would.

There were smiles everywhere. There was a connecting of consciousness. I had goosebumps.

To gain courage to bring something so radically different to that conference, I first shared the song and dance with three different groups of children.

My gratitude goes to the children who taught me that the song and dance is powerful, positive and hopeful and to the First Nations teachers who shared this teaching.

Another way I get motivated is to play the song by Peter Gabriel called "Make Tomorrow Today". Here are the key lyrics that affect me:
