What is a cartographer?
The word cartographer means "map maker." You and your fellow cartographers must complete three activities. To help with your search, feel free to use all forms of research material. You will find some helpful links at the bottom of the page. Remember, a good explorer/researcher always keeps a list of where he or she locates the information and always gives credit where credit is due. Good luck and happy searching.

Activity #1

    1. Using poster boards make two maps of Europe.
                 -  One political map of Europe during the
                     Middle ages
                 -  One thematic map (Bubonic Plague)
            Maps should be
                 -  labeled
                 -  colored
                 -  include a map key.
The group must be able to discuss and present the maps to Headquarters.

Activity #2

    2. Prepare a computer
slide show (PowerPoint) travelogue about a trip from the source
of one major European river to its mouth.
                 -  First choose a river
                 -  Use the Internet, encyclopedia, classroom books, travel books or any other
resources to research the river and its surrounding land.
                 -  Travelogues should describe and show pictures of the places, cities, and
landmarks that are along the way.

Activity #3

    3. Due to the fact that other agents at Headquarters like to play games, we are asking
that you create a game that has a minimum of 10 interesting questions about the
        geography of Europe.
                 - The game is your choice - you may use the CPS system to create a game or
you can model a game from a TV Game show like Where in the World is
Carmen San Diego Jeopardy, Family Feud, Let's Make a Deal, etc. or, better
yet, you can create an original game - your choice - have fun with it.
                 -  Due to time constraints at the banquet the  game cannot last more than 10
                    minutes
You must include the rules and answers. We hope that you understand that here at
Headquarters we learn information better in the form of a game rather than the old
fashioned way of having a meeting and discussing these important geography facts.
        Thanks for your understanding.
