Once again a trip to Montreal, which is getting to be my second home, to sit in an
audience and witness Lara spread some more of her magic. This time Lara had some extra
gold dust up her sleeves. The night proved to be one of revelation for me and for many of
the fans in the studio.
I'll get to that in a moment.
First I want to express my "thank-yous" to the many fans who over the last two
years have been unbelievably kind and friendly to me and my friends from the US. Your
smiles, handshakes, hugs, and warm acceptance into the "Fabian family" have made
us feel so welcomed to your beautiful city of Montreal and magnificent country of Canada.
The days and evenings that I have spent in your company have given me many lasting
memories of goodtimes shared with people that I have grown to love immensely. It is a
reflection of Lara's character and goodness that her fans shine with such compassion and
consideration.
Okay....now to the show itself.
Lara once again astonished us with her talents as singer, speaker, WOMAN, but she added a
few more dimensions to her list of credits....actress, dancer, and comedienne!!!!
No need to add much more about her two vocal performances which bookended the one-hour
special...one word will suffice - PERFECTION!!! Whether capturing just the right amount of
power and energy to sock across "S'en Aller" or her riveting combination of
dramatic tension and soft yearning in "Immortelle", Lara was dazzling in both
musical interpretations. Congrats to the back-up singers led by Kim Richardson and to the
musicians in the band.
The piece de resistance was the "CHEEK-TO-CHEEK" segment in two parts....now and
40 years hence. A take-off on the famous dancing pair, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers,
Lara exhibited a marvelous flair for dancing and especially for comedy in the second
segment that took place 40 years later. Dressed and combed in the manner of
"Ginger"(she would make a terrific EVITA), Lara proved that her talent as an
actress who is able to completely lose herself within a character is extremely
exceptional. Switching to her comedic talents in the 40 years later section, I was
instantly impressed and was brought back to the days when the great comedienne Carol
Burnett did the same type of comedy and take-offs on her television show. High priase
indeed.
It was quite an experience to be seated in the studio watching Lara as she watched this
segment herself for the very first time on one of the many televison sets in the studio.
She stood and watched very intently and had a radiant smile on her face as the segment
ended with wild applause from the audience. Hopefully, Lara will do more of the same in
the future and will continue to evolve from merely a singer-songwriter into an actress of
the highest caliber. I see movies and Broadway in her future...always have simply because
of the total immersion of her whole being into the songs she sings and "acts" in
her performace art.
Bravo to Lara and a great big "thumbs up" to Marc and his show for spotlighting
Lara in all of her many hues and facets.
