My
Bright
Star
This was for Alexis.  My first song, it came to me before I could play guitar.  Imagine my delight when I finally figured out the chords, simple though they turned out to be. I think this was written in December 1997
And the day you left
the sunset was incredible
Golden horizon underneath a turquoise sky
And those little pink clouds
Were floating up in the heavens and
it was so beautiful I didnt even want to cry
So I walked on just a little bit further
and I saw a bright star
Or maybe a satellite
And I thought
I dont ever have to worry
about losing you because
No matter where you are
Youll always be shining like that star

And the night you left
We all went out dancing
Trying to prove to ourselves that life would still go on
And if we ever had
A little more fun than we thought we would
It was in those moments
we forgot you were gone
And three times
on that cold December evening
When we walked out
We saw shooting stars
I dont know if its an omen
But threes a lucky number
And no matter where you are
We can both dance under the stars

Early next morning
the moon was a fat and dusty pearl
Swimming through the sunrise clouds
sinking into its own dreams
and I thought
If the whole skys celebrating
all day and all night
maybe your going
isnt as bad as it seems
And the real reason
that you had to go away
may become clear to me
a litte bit later
I dont know when we will meet again
and I know its not the same
But no matter where you are
Ill always love you from afar

No matter where you are
Ill always love you my bright star
Ill always love you my bright star
