Hi Everyone, I noticed in my previous movie review that I failed to mention the spanking portions of the film, so, I thought that I'd add that into my comments. :) Revision of previous message: From: Huh Chuh Date: Sun Oct 6, 2002 9:43 am Subject: "Secretary" Movie Review I saw the movie Secretary Saturday October 5. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays the role of Lee. James Spader plays the role of Mr. Grey. The movie begins by showing Lee's life with her parents where she lives. It's interesting to see how she copes with her homelife stress. I feel real sympathy and understanding for her character. She's not crazy for harming herself. She simply has no outlet for her emotions. She's always holding them in. She's a beautiful capable young woman; yet, she continuously sells herself short. Her mother seems to live her life through Lee. Her father drinks enough liquor to cause himself harm. Lee seems to cry for both of her parents on the inside. Or maybe she feels trapped by her circumstances. She might be feeling guilt for her parent's marriage. She might somehow feel that she is less than because her home life is less than perfect. So, she harms herself to find release. Through the course of the movie, she learns confidence in herself. She learns that some outside pain is more fun than her current internal pain. She frees herself (with Mr. Grey's) from the self-harm and self-mutilation. She finds more pleasant forms of pain with Mr. Grey's help. The spankings that Mr. Grey employs frees her from much of her pain. She, like the flowers in his office, blooms under his care. She accepts the spankings as her due. She seems to find release and life and love in those spankings. The bondage, domination, and submission just add spice to the spankings. The dark wood tones of the Mr. Grey's office and home add a thrilling flavor and texture to the movie. One night at Lee's home, the television provides cover noise as she experiments with spanking. She lifts her nightgown and applies a hairbrush to her pantied behind. She closes her eyes tight as she tries to spank herself enough. About three spanks later, she discovers that it's not the same. I expected her to be disappointed with self-spanking; but I still felt sad for her when she made that realization. I wonder how this movie might change if the internet were included as a spanking component. She might be able to do text, audio, and video chat as well as email. She could communicate with her dom more often. It would be a different movie and a different relationship. One image of Lee struck me as particular erotic and beautiful. We see the profile of her with panties down and skirt bunched at her waist. It looked beautiful. My favorite line from the film was Lee's answer to Peter (Jeremy Davies), "Does this look sexual to you?" She's seated at the desk in a vigilance for Mr. Grey's return. I love the power of BDSM which may transform normal behaviors into exotic erotic actions. In a tender moment, we see Mr. Grey bathe Lee after her three day vigilance. We see Lee sitting in the tub with her nipples peeking out at us and matching the beautiful copper bathtub. The contrast between the color of the nipple and copper is beautiful. The growth of Lee and the conflict resolution within this BDSM film caused me to really enjoy this movie. Huh Chuh
