| Buffy Summers and her mum arrive in Sunnydale California, after she was expelled from her last school, Hemery High, in LA. On her first day at Sunnydale High she makes friends with the painfully shy Willow Rosenburg and Xander Harris, and meets the new school librarian Mr Giles. He turns out to be her new Watcher, recently arrived from England, but Buffy is reluctant to resume her duties as the Slayer. Xander overhears their conversation as they talk in the library & Giles tries to persuade her of the importance of her role. Beneath the streets of Sunnydale an ancient vampire known as the Master is trapped in an abandoned church. He plots to escape with his band of vampires including Luke and Darla. That night on the way to the local nightclub, the Bronze, Buffy is followed by a mysterious man who gives her a silver cross and warns her about "The Harvest". Buffy sees Willow at the Bronze and gives her a pep-talk to "seize the moment". Later, while she's talking to Giles, she's shocked to see Willow leaving with a guy she's just identified as a vampire. After a run-in with Cordelia, the school's 'rich bitch', Buffy tries to find Willow with Xander's help. Willow and Jessie are taken to a crypt in the graveyard by two vampires, Thomas and Darla. Buffy and Xander burst in on them just as Darla is about to feed on Willow. After staking Thomas Buffy fights Darla whilst Willow and Xander escape with Jessie. Luke suddenly appears in the crypt and attacks Buffy while Darla goes after the others. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Luke about to bite Buffy |
