Tom's Rose Garden

Schneezwerg
(Lambert, 1912)

I ordered two these plants as part of an eight rose purchase from Roseraie at Bayfields. I’m using it and it’s close relatives (all white rugosa hybrids received in the order) to form a hedge along the top of the wall.

“Shrub up to 5 ft. and as much across. Flowers ice-white, semi-double, with pale yellow stamens, of medium size, 3 to 3 1/2 inches across, opening flat. Mid-June and recurrent throughout season. Slight scent. Hips smaller than on other Rugosas, orange-red. A pleasing shrub with good rugosa type foliage of deep apple-green, leaflets slightly smaller than in other forms. Distinct for the shining whiteness of its flowers which contrast well with the early hips. Makes a fine hedge which may be clipped with shears.” The Dictionary of Roses by Gault & Synge
