Tom's Rose Garden

Reine Victoria
(Schwartz, 1872)

I bought this Bourbon from MEA Nurseries in the spring of 1997. I transplanted it into a pot and will wait to put it into the ground until the weather permits transplanting. Im hoping to have some flowers this year so that I can see first-hand the beautiful pink cupped flowers. The cup form is one of my favorites. This may also be another one that I peg. I'll also be planting it away from any rugosas because I know that I'll be spraying it for blackspot.

"A Bourbon shrub of medium vigour, usually with rather narrow and erect growth. Flowers pale lilac-pink, darkest on outside, semi-double to almost double, of medium size, up to 3 1/2 in. across, cupped and retaining this form when mature, petals overlapping like those of a small waterlilly, scented. Mid to late June but recurrent. The Dictionary of Roses by Gault & Synge

You can see a picture and read more about this rose at Yesterday's Rose and another picture at Roseraie at Bayfields.
