Tom's Rose Garden
Ferdinand Pichard
(Tanne, 1921)
This Hybrid Perpetual is my first striped rose, a gift from Jeremy Buckley
when he and his wife stayed at our Bed & Breakfast. It's fragrant flowers
are pink with crimson striping. The bush will grow 4-5 feet tall, and is
supposed to be winter hardy and disease resistant.
"Hybrid Perpetual
shrub of medium vigour and rather spreading habit, but not often over 5 ft.
Flowers of medium size, semi-double, opening pink, fading to pale blush-pink,
almost white, heavily streaked and splashed irregularly with crimson, deepening
as the flower ages. Scented. Free-flowering. Mid to late June and recurrent
through summer and autumn. A fine bushy rose, valuable for its recurrent
flowering. Foliage rather light green." The Dictionary of Roses by Gault
& Synge
Spring 1997
The rooted cutting I got from Jeremy is growing. It's about 12 inches high
now. I'm going to have to transplant it because it's now smack in the middle of
my white Rugosa hedge. I'll wait until the late fall. I'm hoping for a couple of
flowers this year, but I'm more concerned with it's growth.
