Tom's Rose Garden
Duchesse de Brabant
(Bernède, 1857)
I received this tea rose when I attended a pruning seminar with the local
Lynchburg Chapter of ARS. It came from a sucker of the rose at the Lynchburg's
Confederate Cemetary Rose Garden. It's cupped pink flowers are very fragrant.
This rose is supposed to bloom continuously on a 4 to 6 foot bush. My young
plant is pretty vigorous considering it doesn't get nearly a full days sun
exposure. It hasn't shown a propensity for blackspot. I read that this was the
rose that Teddy Roosevelt wore as a boutonniere.
Spring 1997
This rose is not growing very fast, but it's still produced a number of
buds. Just a matter of being patient.
