Tom's Rose Garden
Dr. Huey
(Thomas, 1914)
This once-blooming climber was the root stock for a Hybrid Tea. The graft
died, but this root-stock flourished. This spring it produced a wonderful
collection of deep red, semi-double flowers along long, arching canes. According
to the FAQ, J&P and Roses of Yesterday and Today and other nurseries in the
western US graft onto Dr. Huey. It is supposedly disease resistant, but mine has
lost leaves to blackspot. This rose was an AARS.
Spring 1997
Threre are a lot of buds on the two bushes. They are still sort of straggly
looking, but after they bloom, I'll put some time into tidying them up. This
plant really does gets blackspot. Worst of any in the yard.
