Tom's Rose Garden
Charles de Mills
(unknown, ? )
I bought this Gallica from MEA Nurseries in the spring of 1997. I
transplanted it into a pot and will wait to put it into the ground until the
weather permits transplanting. This is the third Gallica to grace my garden, and
I look forward to its large, reddish-purple flowers and bushy
growth.
"Shrub rose, strong growing up to 5 ft. Flowers large, up t 4 1/2
in. across, crimson-maroon, fully double and well quartered with an intricate
and intriguing pattern of slightly crinkled petals. Fragrant. On maturing,
flowers show some dark purple tints. Mid to late June. One of he finest flowers
in the Gallica group and recommended for general garden purposes. One flower
also makes a wonderful buttonhole which is also certain to be admired. Sometimes
known as ‘Bizarre Trhimphant’.” The Dictionary of Roses by Gault &
Synge
