Tom's Rose Garden
Cecile Brunner
(Ducher, 1881)
A polyantha with small, but perfect and fragrant pink flowers. The bush form
of this rose is three to four feet in height and, after a wonderful early summer
blooming, has repeated. The flowers look like tiny hybrid tea blooms. My wife
bought me this rose (her first rose purchase for me) and we planted it over the
grave of our cat, Mouse. Makes a beautiful memorial.
"Shrub rose of
medium vigour, usually not over 4 ft often rather less, distinguished by small
neat foliage and numerous miniature blooms of perfect form. Flowers scented,
thimble-like in size, pale blush-pink, slightly deeper in centre, buds
long-pointed. Mid-June and recurrent throughout summer. Its pruning should be
limited to the cutting out of weak growth with occasional removal of older
branches, but it should not be pruned too hard. A valuable rose for its neat
appearance and for cutting; it is surpassed for garden display by its climbing
form." The Dictionary of Roses by Gault & Synge
Spring
1997
This bush has a lot of new growth, but because it is so dense, there is also
a lot of blackspot. Hopefully, this is the plant's natural way to thin out the
center for better air flow.
