The key uses sets of questions and steps to follow to lead the scientist to the correct scientific name. MAIN IDEAS 1. Scientists need to separate things into groups. 2. They need to use the same language. 3. They need to describe things. 4. Taxonomy is the method scientists use to name things according to their characteristics. SIX KINGDOMS: Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protists, Archaebacteria, Eubacteria 1. Animals - many cells, cannot make their own food 2. Plants - many cells, can make their own food 3. Fungi - many cells, cannot make their own food, absorb their food through special tubes, are not green 4. Protists - one cell, some can make their own food, others cannot make their own food, some have characteristics of animals, some have characteristics of plants 5. Archaebacteria - one cell, cannot make their own food, exist in very harsh (hard to live in) conditions 6. Eubacteria - one cell, cannot make their own food, are found everywhere - even inside your digestive system
