Discussion slide 1
This is a slide showing Amyloidosis of the liver. There is extensive extracellular deposition of pink hyaline material, surrounding liver cells in many instances.
Amyloidosis is typically associated with chronic inflammatory diseases.
In the list if individuals provided, the correct answer is c - the patient who has had ulcerative colitis for many years - remember Ulcerative Colitis usually starts at an early age- typically 20 - 40 but oftern in the younger part of this time scale.

A child of 3 would not have had sufficient time to deposit this amount of amyolod even if there was a chronic inflammatory disease present. .
Chronic bronchitis is not an inflammatory disease usually, but is rather an excessive production of mucus (more than 3 months in 2 consequetive years) and is associated with smoking especially
Cirrhosis of the liver is associated with deposition of collagen - which is not evident here
Elderly patients do have amyloid deposition but usually in the CNS and heart.
