About the Artist

Welcome, my name is Alexis Guethler.  I am the owner, saleswoman, and designer for Hugging Hedgehog Creations.   I am a self taught wire wrapper, which is my favorite handmade jewelry medium for its delicacy and beauty.  All pieces are handmade by me.  I started by making a few pieces for myself, and have compulsively beaded ever since.  In addition to my jewelry habit, I am a part time environmental educator, and a full time military wife.  I am proud to be the wife of a Navy P-3 pilot stationed at Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base, Hawaii.  It gives me so much joy to see someone wearing my creations.  I hope that it gives you as much happiness to take home one of my one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.

My Materials

I work with high quality materials from around the world.  I will always disclose the materials used to the best of my ability.  Unless otherwise noted all silver metal is sterling silver.  All lower grade metal will be explicitly discussed.  Beads are either semi-precious or glass, please feel free to ask.  All gold materials are gold filled unless otherwise noted.  Gold filled materials are a standard in the handmade jewelry industry due to the expense and softness of pure gold.  Gold fill is a heirloom quality jeweler's metal that was used extensively in the 1800's and can with reasonable care can last for generations. Heat and pressure is used to permanently bond 14 karat gold to a core of brass or other base metal. It is not the same as gold plated, which is a cheap, thin coating of gold only about a molecule thick. 14 karat rolled gold has around 100 times more gold in it than gold plated. Gold filled jewelry does not discolor or flake off like gold plated does.  The surface is totally covered with a thick layer of 14 karat gold, and that is what comes in contact with your skin, all gold making it excellent for people with non-gold metal allergies.

Custom Orders

Hugging Hedgehog Creations welcomes the chance to merge your vision with my expertise.  Each of my pieces is one of a kind, but for something truly you a custom order may be the answer.  Custom orders are also the perfect way to match any formal, prom, or wedding ensemble.  It is difficult to find fashionable styles in the perfect colors and quality materials (sterling and gold – versus the base metal in most fashion jewelry).  Before you run from store to store looking for that perfect piece of jewelry, ask me for a custom order quote and marvel at my competitive prices.

Metal Allergies

Most of my findings are sterling silver which is considered a hypoallergenic metal.  I am very willing to customize your jewelry to meet your metal allergy needs.   This can be done at minimal cost and usually will not delay your order.  Nylon ear wires can even be ordered if you cannot wear any metal(I do not have these on hand so your order will be delayed).

Payment Methods

Checks are welcome, however items will be held until the check clears and will then be promptly shipped.  A $25 dollar returned check fee will be assessed if the check is returned.  All bank account and credit card payments are processed through Paypal.  Paypal offers security and has the lowest identity theft of any online shopping cart service, please see their website for more details ( www.paypal.com ).  Registration is not required to use the paypal service.

Returns

If you aren't delighted with your purchase, please return it for an exchange or full refund within 30 days of receipt.  Everything you see on this site is handcrafted by me and I want you to be happy with your new jewelry.  I stand by my designs for their quality, durability and beauty.   All materials for exchange or refund must be in original untarnished or non-scratched condition unless there is an error in workmanship.   Wire wrapped and semi-precious stone jewelry are both very durable.  However, natural variations in the material could cause weak areas or faults that cannot be identified in advance.   In addition, silver jewelry should not be exposed to chlorine or cleaning chemicals as it may damage and pit the metal.   Sleeping in beaded jewelry is also not advisable.  If your item should break, you may return it to me for a one time free repair.  Your only charge will be shipping to me and for any lost components at cost.   A repair fee may be assessed for future repairs unless I find that the workmanship or material  were faulty.   Your items will be repaired as quickly as possible, though there may be some wait time required to accurately match the beads or style of the item.  I will cover the cost of sending the item back to you.   Please call or email me before sending any merchandise to me through the mail.

Shipping

All non-custom order items will be shipped within 7 days of ordering – generally sooner.  Shipping is through USPS priority mail, although other arrangements can be made if you contact me.   I will email you once your items have shipped.  Priority mail generally takes from 5-8 days for delivery to the mainland.

Gift Certificates

Have a special someone you would like to get a gift for and don't know what they would like? Get them a gift certificate!  Gift certificates can be used in person at shows, or I will contact your special someone to find out their personal style and custom create something just for them.  Gift certificates can be also be used for online purchases.
