Hubbard 2, Champion 5
Champion, OH- Hubbard played
their best game of the season tonight against a nice Champion team. Hubbard’s young defense was put to the test
tonight against two very skilled and quick strikers David Palm and Tyler Day. Both players are four year starters for
Champion.
Besides a few defensive
breakdowns in the first half, Hubbard hung tough the rest of the way and held
their own. Champion struck early when
they broke down Hubbard’s defense off one and one’s to set up easy scoring
chances that Champion converted.
The second goal was more
impressive than the first when two Hubbard’s defenders had Champion’s Tyler Day
pinned in the corner and Day broke both defenders down off the dribble to set
up the second goal and a 2-0 lead. The
third goal was scored off a long throw in to put Champion up 3-0 midway through
the first half.
From that point on Hubbard
held their own the rest of the night.
Besides giving up an own goal in the second half Hubbard played very
well in the second half. Congratulation
to Hubbard’s Freshmen Tim Kemner for scoring is first
two goals of his Varsity career.
Both goals were on breakaways
and Tim did a very nice job in keeping his composure on both shots to beat the
keeper. Gabe
Hitchcock assisted Kemner’s first goal and Alex Evans
assisted the second goal.
Hubbard will host Kennedy Catholice (PA) Friday, August 29
