Hubbard 2, Champion 2

Hubbard, OH—Hubbard battles Champion to a 2-2 draw in one of the most entertaining games this year.  This game was action packed and was a great display of soccer the Eagles performed in front of a very lively and enthused crowd.

Champion strikes first off a throw in the take a 1-0 lead.  Then seven minutes later Champion again nets a throw in goal to take a 2-0 lead.  Hubbard held the own from that point on and started putting Champion’s defense under pressure.  The Eagles were getting decent ball movement and created a few good scoring chances in the half but were unable to score.

Hubbard comes out in the second half and played one heck of a game.  The intensity was extremely high.  The pressure on the ball was excellent and the ball movement was superb.  The Eagles out shot Champion 16-4 in the second half and some of the shots were at point blank range.  Hubbard didn’t not find net until eight minutes left in the game when Philipp tho Pesch found Alex Chick on a strong run to his right.  Alex got behind the defender and beat the goalie to cut the lead to 2-1 Champion.

Then with five minutes left in the game Champion was unable to clear the ball out of the defensive end and the ball ended up on Hubbard’s Philipp tho Pesch foot.  Philipp beat one defender to the left the absolutely hammered a 25 yards shot through the Champion’s defense and in the bottom right corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

Hubbard was not done yet and came up with a few great scoring chances in the last two minutes of the game.  The best chance came when Alex Chick sent a corner kick in the box that Greg Orr headed the ball passed the keeper to only be denied by another Champion defender holding his position on the post.  He barely clears the ball off the line, but right to Hubbard’s R.J. Lee who blasted the six yard shot back at the goal and hit Champion’s keeper in the chest/stomach area and deflected out of play.

What a great game and comeback for the Eagles and what a great display of soccer.  The fans got their monies worth tonight.

Hubbard 7-2-2 has a very important must win game Monday night at Lakeview.
