Hubbard downs Ursuline 2-1

Youngstown, OH—Hubbard and Ursuline both played very good on the defensive side of the ball.  The game was 0-0 at the half with each team getting four shots a piece at goal.  The first half Hubbard was holding the flow of the game.  Ursuline’s defense put the brakes on the Eagle offense about 20 to 25 yards off the goal.

The Eagles inability to execute the final pass or passes led to Ursuline shutting them out at the half.  Hubbard did find the next pass in the second half as they set up five to six very good scoring chances.  The first game when R.J. Lee hit the crossbar on a shot that came back into play.  With the goalie out of the play and the net open, Hubbard’s Adam Hogan held his composure and chipped the ball into the net to give Hubbard a 1-0 lead.

With 20 minutes to go Alex Chick was trying to get a shot off in the penalty area when he was fouled.  Alex converted the penalty kick to give Hubbard the 2-0 lead.  At the 15:00 mark Hubbard gets called for tripping in the box giving Ursuline a penalty kick.  Ursuline scored on the penalty kick and cut the lead to 2-1 Hubbard.

From that point on Hubbard’s defense was solid the rest of the way holding off Ursuline for the 2-1 win.  This was a very good defensive showing for the back line.  They kept Ursuline on the toes on set pieces pretty well shut the down the entire game.

Offensively Hubbard had a much better second half against the Irish.  They moved the ball much better, shorten down their passes, and the ball movement was pretty consisted through out the second half.
