Hubbard knocks off Champion 2-0 on the road
for the first time in 11 years.
Champion, OH—Hubbard did something no other team has done in the past 11 years at Champion. That was to win on Champions home field. The Eagles had two previous ties over the 11 year span. The Eagles were up to the task with some great defense and offense combined.
Hubbard did not have any let ups in the game tonight. They were into the game from the start the game until the whistle blew to finish the game. Hubbard started getting their best looks at goal from 10 minutes into the first half to half time and the same in the second half. Hubbard did a great job in setting up some very good scoring opportunities which we failed to convert. Hubbard missed two one on ones with the keeper in the first half and two one on ones in the second half.
Hubbard did not get on the board until 1:51 remaining in the first half. Alex Chick nailed home a direct kick to give Hubbard a little breathing room to go up 1-0 at the half. The defenders, Miles Williams, Eric Pavia, John Vadala, Josh Kerr, and Keeper Galen Hayek all played an outstanding defensive game for the Eagles. They gave very few good looks at the goal and when Champion did get a good look once in awhile keeper Galen Hayek was there to stop everything hit at him.
Hubbard grabbed a well needed goal at the 27:00 in the second half to go up 2-0. Alex Chick sent a direct kick through the Champion defense that Jeremy Frazzini ran on to and slide the ball in the net. From that point on the defense was tested a few times but each time they had the answer. They cleared the ball exactly when they needed to. They gave up throw-ins when they needed to and they started some very nice counters out of the back also.
Hubbard out shot Champion 19-11 on the night.
