Salem 2, Hubbard 1
Hubbard, OH—Hubbard
drops a tough home opener to Salem. The Eagles started the game with some of the
best ball possession I’ve seen this year.
Hubbard had total control of the ball and the game. Salem
had a difficult time even clearing the ball out to midfield. The Eagles may have been lulled to sleep with
the easy run of things in the first 25 minutes of the first half.
Things were so easy for Hubbard that they thought it’s just
a matter of time until we net a few goals.
With all the nice build ups Hubbard still couldn’t find the back of the net
until late in the first half when Hubbard’s Jeremy Frazzini took a shot,
deflected off a Salem defender, hit the keepers hand and went into the goal for
a own goal to put Hubbard up 1-0.
With three minutes left in the first half Salem ties the game up on a corner kick to
make it 1-1. The Eagles must and will
not make the mistake again when they have their opponent back in a corner. They
must keep them their and finish the job by maintaining the same intensity, ball
movement, shots at goal as they did in the first 25 minutes.
Hubbard played a very complete second half. They all left it out on the field for the entire
second half. Hubbard did everything I expected
out of them but just could not convert their scoring chances. They run the field hard, got good ball
movement, held a lot of or almost all the possession in the second half.
Salem went up 2-1 on the
Eagles at the 27:00 minute mark of the second half on a shot from the left
corner, which turned out to be the game winning goal for Salem.
Hubbard out shot Salem
21-10 and is 1-1 on the season.
