Ursuline 4, Hubbard 2
Hubbard, Oh—Hubbard jumped
out early on the Irish just five minutes into the game when Alex Chick sent a
corner kick to Paul Gref. Paul
redirected the ball to the far post for the 1-0 led.
Moments later Freshmen Eddie
Zitnik picked up his first career assist as he found R.J. Lee at the top of the
18. R.J. Lee shielded the defender then
turned him inside and beat the keeper near post on a very nice shot for a 2-0
led.
Hubbard had the Irish right
where they wanted them. The second goal
took a lot out of Ursuline and Hubbard had the run of things for the majority
of the first half. With 15 minutes left
in the half Hubbard’s defense run into some problems with their one on one
defender and missed cleared balls that Ursuline made the Eagles pay for their
mistakes and even up the score 2-2 at halftime.
The momentum swung to the
Irish and they started controlling the flow of the game in the second
half. Ursuline pounded shots at the
Eagles for almost the entire second half.
Keeper Galen Hayek made some great diving saves to keep Hubbard even in
the contest. The Eagles defense was much better the second half. They were getting good clears when they had
to and they did not get broking down on one on ones. The defense played a much better second half.
The goals in the second half
came off a direct kick and the other was off a shot that Hubbard’s Keeper
couldn’t hold onto.
Hubbard will have to play an
intense mistake free game Tuesday night up in Champion if they want to keep
their Tac-8 hopes alive.
