Hubbard rallies from a 3-1 deficit with
9:51 left in the game to tie Lakeview 3-3
Hubbard bounced right backed
when R.J. Lee took the ball down the left side and beat the right defender and
scored off a great shot that beat the keeper low and to the far post. Then at the 33:00 mark of the first half
Hubbard falls to clear a long throw in that resulted in Lakeview taking a 2-1
lead. Lakeview gained a lot of momentum
off the second goal and pressed the Eagles until they scored their third goal
again off a ball that wasn’t cleared properly by Hubbard’s defense. This gave Lakeview a commanding 3-1 halftime
lead.
Hubbard played little better
second half and held up as well in the defense.
The game wasn’t a well played possession game for either team. There was a lot of kick and chase in the game
tonight which Hubbard never could solve the problem. This resulted in a very fast paced game. Lakeview was very effective in winning a lot
of balls in the middle of the field and had a very quick forward up front that
kept our defense under a lot of stress the entire game.
But the Eagles hung tough and
never stopped battling. There hard work
finally paid off when R.J. Lee scored the second goal of the night when the
keeper couldn’t hold onto the ball after a hard shot by Jeremy Frazzini. R.J. was
right there to follow the shot up for his 11 goal of the season and more
important close the score to 3-2 Lakeview.
Then with five minutes left
in the game Miles Williams made the Coach look good again because he was moved
up front with 20:00 left in the game to apply some extra pressure on the
Bulldog defense. Miles not only applied
pressure but he scored the biggest goal of his career with five minutes left in
the game. Miles took a pass from R.J.
Lee and took a left footed shot and beat the keeper on the ground near post to
tie the game at 3-3.
Then the game really got
intense and there was a huge scramble in front of Hubbard’s keeper that
resulted in a penalty kick call for the bulldogs. With 2:51 left in the game Hubbard’s keeper
Galen Hayek stopped the penalty kick twice to save the game for the
Eagles. The second stop was unreal
because the Lakeview player was at point blank range and took a hard low shot
to Galen’s right. Galen reached low and
knocked the ball away to save the day.
