Hubbard 2, Champion 1

 

Hubbard, OH—Hubbard came out on top of a hard fought Tac-8 game Wednesday night.  Both teams had to play through a very muddy and difficult field. 

 

Champion started the game by holding good ball possession in the middle of the field, but when unable to create any good scoring chances on the Hubbard defense.  The game was knotted up 0-0 midway through the first half when Alex Chick picked up Gustavo Menezes making a strong run forward.  Gustavo took the pass and beat one defender and shot and scored a very nice goal far post to beat the Champion goalie and to put Hubbard up 1-0.

 

Hubbard held the lead until eight minutes left in the first half when they were unable to clear the ball out of the penalty box and Champion took advantage of the miss clear and tied the game up at 1-1.

 

The game went back and forth until the 28:00 minute mark when Hubbard’s R.J. Lee off an assist by Alex Chick beat the left defender one on one and then beat the Champion keeper near post on a hard looted shot to give the Eagles the lead again 2-1.  From that point on the game continued to flow back and forth with both teams getting a few nice looks on goal. 

 

Hubbard’s defense and Keeper Galen Hayek hung tough and preserved the 2-1 lead for the win.  Hubbard out shot Champion 18-12 and improves their Tac-8 record to 2-0.
