Hubbard 1, Canfield 2

Canfield, Oh—Hubbard battles Canfield tough in non league action Saturday night at Canfield.  Canfield got on the board first on a rare ball that got over the top of the defenders that set up a one on one with the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

The game went back and forth with Canfield getting a little more ball movement in the middle of the field but the Hubbard’s defense wasn’t giving up any good scoring chances.  The defense was very effective keeping Canfield off balance tonight with sporadic trapping, very good tackling and some very nice saves from keeper Steve Roose.

At the 35:00 mark of the first half Canfield found some space at the top of the penalty box and scored a nice goal in the upper right corner of the net for the 2-0 halftime lead.

Hubbard stepped up and played a very solid second half.  The Eagles did not concede any goals in the half and worked very hard to bring the game within one goal.  Tim Kemner’s move back to the attacking mid paid off just 12 minutes in the second half.  Tim received the ball in the middle of the field, beat one defender to his right and took a 35 yard shot that caught the keeper off his line for a beautiful goal that cut the lead to 2-1 Canfield.

Hubbard pushed hard for the tying goal and created a few chances to tie the game.  Overall it was a very strong game for the Eagles who left it all on the field tonight.
