| On the 21st of February I watched something horrific. The Ring. A remake of a Chinese film which has spawned two sequels over there. The Ring is essentially a Horror movie but has no gore in it. The most blood you see is from a nose bleed, HONEST! Now this may sound amazing seeing as all of it's peers do. We live in a world where Scream type films rule the horror market. Producing a million films involving teenagers being sliced to death. This film proves them wrong. I can't really say too much about what happens in the story after about 15 minutes because the plot thickens extremly quickly and I don't want to give anything away. As the trailer says "This is Somara, and if you watch her tape, you die in a week". Lovely. Actually you don't meet Somara until halfway through the film and half of those images in that trailer are from the end of the film anyway. Basically there is this tape. No-one knows how it was created. There is no code on the tape saying what camera made it, you can't see the camera filming, in a mirror it's looking at. Basically it is an odd tape. When you watch it. Someone knows you've watched it. Your phone instantly rings and it says "7 days". You then have a week to live. At the exact time you watched the tape a week earlier you die. No-one comes and stabs you or something. You just die. Not necessarily 'by nature'. You could fall off a building or die in a car accident. The tape itself needs a mention. Indeed you watch the images on it. It's very weird. I don't want to give too much away, but it's really bizarre. Probably all of the images in the tape get mirrored in real life. And when you see it in real life it cuts to the video image. Seeing as the title of the film is called 'The Ring' you'd expect it to be about rings which you put on you fingers. Wrong. The image in the poster is in the film. It concludes the film. The ending is fairly prolonged and drawn out but well worth it. It requires a bit of thinking but the more intelligent minded of you will be able to figure it out. I think I did ;). This film is probably the scariest I've ever seen. True I haven't seen that many horror movies. Mainly because they only show them at haloween and you can't watch five at once, and also I'm too poor to rent them out. However this film is tense all the way through. Whenever it gets a bit quiet all of a sudden a relly jumpy bit happens. There were a few girls in the cinema and they were screaming. I recommend anyone to watch it. Don't be fooled by the fact that if it's a 15 is won't be too bad. It will and it is. |
