Blackjack

When I graduated from college way back in 1973 my parents coerced me into going to Las Vegas (the real reason they were so excited about traveling from Seattle, WA to Claremont, CA to attend my graduation I suspect).  Well, we've been vacationing in Reno, Tahoe, Las Vegas, and Laughlin at least a few times per year ever since (Linda was hooked simultaneously).  Fortunately we're strictly red chip.  We prefer to place our larger bets on the stock market (at least there we have an advantage - we hope).

Words of advice

  1. Budget your money.
  2. Never dig for more money.
  3. When you find yourself chasing your losses, get up and leave.
  4. Never get mad.
  5. When you do get mad, get up and leave.
  6. If you don't like the other players, get up and leave.
  7. No alcohol.
  8. If you're tired, go to bed.
  9. As a minimum, play a basic strategy.
  10. If you're losing, remember, it's always better to leave with something than nothing.
  11. Don't get frustrated.
  12. When you do get frustrated, take a break, go to the bathroom, or at least go to another table.
  13. Winning big is fun but rare.  If you're up by a significant amount, get up and leave.
  14. Losing big is not so fun but also rare.  If you're down by a significant amount, get up and leave.
  15. Don't leave your money on the table.
  16. If you count, do it right or don't do it at all.
  17. Stick with the count, don't play your hunches.
  18. Don't bet big to impress anyone, you'll lose and impress no one.
  19. Don't quit your day job.  You'll never get rich playing blackjack.
  20. Don't mess with the cocktail waitresses.
  21. Remember, you're there to have fun, not to get rich (or poor).
