9/13/2004  Electronic Voting Machines, Bad Idea

Here's why I believe it will be a mistake.

There is a possibility of hacking but I believe it to be low.  There is a more likely possibility that these strategically placed machines are to be rigged.

Please review political contributions by DIEBOLD, the most successful of the electronic voting machine suppliers.  If they had contributed to both parties they could at least keep the image of impartiality.  However, they did not.  I think impartiality is important in a voting machine company, don't you?

Instead they gave only to the RNC (Source: Opensecrets.org)

9/5/2001  $25,000  RNC/Repub National State Elections Cmte

5/1/2002  $15,000  RNC/Repub National State Elections Cmte

2/8/2002  $25,000  RNC/Repub National State Elections Cmte

3/6/2001  $5,000  RNC/Repub National State Elections Cmte

9/19/2002  $25,000  RNC/Repub National State Elections Cmte

Which leads us to the second point.

The image of impropriety.  Because of all this, Diebold has opened itself up to criticism in the upcoming election.  No matter the outcome this one is going to court.  No matter who wins, the loser is going to challenge the results.  We all remember what happened last time.

We need to go back to paper and pen in my opinion.
