TRAN QUOC TUAN

Hello! Hiya! Yo, what'sup? I hope those greetings cover the majority of characters that will visit this web-page. This is an opportunity for me to talk a little on my favourite topic- me.
I'm the Sports Officer for HSVVN, and in my spare time I'm also a 4th year medical student in London.
>From my 'job title', you would imagine that I'll be pretty fit, right? Modesty aside, I would have to agree with you. Imagine one the 'gladiators' from the televison show, make him much smaller, less meaner, and excessively leaner, and that'll be pretty much me. I have 'dabbled' with weight-training, but gave up shortly after I realised that you can't improve on perfection. I'm a keen footballer and badminton player, and also enjoy swimming. But the 'sport' that I most enjoy is 'disco-grooving'. Breaking out to outrageous, physically unfeasible, potentially dangerous (to others on the dance floor) moves throughout an evening can be extremely exhausting. I try to fit in a weekly session in my keep-fit regime.

As Sports Officer, I'm responsible for promoting sporting interests among members and organising an event where this can be done. Essentially I have to organise a 'sports-day' once a year. This has been very simple. It seems to me that (perhaps since the dawn of Vietnamese civilisation) young vietnamese people only do two sports: football and badminton. So I've only had to organise these two activities. I hope this will change, but maybe not within my lifetime.

Finally, a little on my views of the Society. I recall the early turbulent founding days of HSVVN, with it heated discussion and uncertainty, and have seen it progress to the self-assured and ambitious society that it is now. I'm glad to have been a part of that change. For someone coming from a town with a tiny vietnamese population (Bristol), the Society has provided me the opportunity to meet other young Vietnamese people and to make very good friends. I think this is most important role of the Society, and other things are secondary. When members look back on their life, I would like them to say: 'Hey,being involved in HSVVN was one of the best decisions I have made. Some of the best friends I have made have been throught the events they organised. Those committe members- what a cool bunch of guys and gals." That's enough from me, and I hope to see you around...
