The battery compartment. Inside the battery compartment you will find the battery together with the transformer rectifier which converts AC voltage, from the respective generators, to DC voltage for the aicraft. A GCU or Generator Control Unit which monitors the generator for under voltage, over voltage, over frequency and feeder fault.A battery charger not only chargers the battery but also monitors the battery for under voltage, over voltage, over temperature and cell inbalance. Note the sump jar on the left of the battery filled with boric acid which allows the battery to vent. The white box on the top of the TR is the external power relay box.
HICHS - Helicopter Internal Cargo Handling System
A system of rollers allows either standard Airforce pallets ( max of 3), or 12 warehouse wooden pallets to be loaded inside the helicopter when the center rail guards are up. The system goes all the way to the ramp and the extensions allows easy loading and unloading of cargo. Noticed when the center set is installed it makes the center cargo door unaccessable.
Tunnel cover A series of driveshafts distributes the power from the engines to the fwd and aft transmission . Each hollow driveshaft assembly is composed of lubricated bearings, shock absorbers and a series of steel plates (the plates also called flexipack ) allows the whole drive system to flex thus reducing stress. The right side of the shafts are the control rods which transfer the input controls to the aft control system. The picture also shows the top VHF (very high frequency ) antenna and one of many eletroluminescence position lights.
Flare Dispenser The flares, part of the aircraft survivability equipment or ASE, holds a total of 30 high temperature flares. The primary function of the flares are to illude heat seaking missiles. This system is design to release 3 flares per set but can be adjusted to release all 30 at one time. The picture shows the back view with all 30 flares installed. Noticed the safety pin installed.(Part of the checklist: "Safety pins removed and stowed").
50000 BTU heater. OK! It's not ready yet but I am working on it. More pictures to come soon. What about an Airbus, Boeing737-300 and 757-200 page? It's coming soon.
